In the News: Massachusetts to the Basque Country Sword Dancing

Jeremy Carter-Gordon is a young American dancers and musician. The Ethnochoreologist from Boston left the US at the end of the academic year in order to study the sword-dance in the old continent, is traveling all around. Markin-Xemain and Elgoibar the next few days.

He is also a sword-dancer, traditional English Rapper sword dances and has danced Boston and in England, as well as the type of longsword and sword dances. He has no parents, and Massachusetts in the morris dances, sword dances from England and has worked in country-dances. A an ethnochoreologist he has studied hard and won a scholarship for one year after a study of the European sword dances. It is also a musician, and has brought his banjo.

The journey began in early August, after it landed in Paris, France Bacchu-ber had a chance to see the sword-dance. Then he saw sword dancing in the Italian towns of Bagnasco and Fenestrelle. He was welcomed to the Basque Country in September and will see Arrate and Beasain sword-dance.

In recent days he has been in Andalusia, Cordoba  for the Obejo sword-dance, and Huelva, Puebla de Guzman of the sword-dance to study. On Sunday, September 25, Galicia, in Marin, he will have the opportunity to see the sword-dance spectacular (more than 100 sword-dancers are) and then will return again to the Basque Country, for San Miguel’s day, in the town of Markin-Xemein will see the sword-dance.

Chain sword-dance, English, “Hilt and point” (handle and tip), or “linking” (joined) is the type of dance which he is especially interested in, and this kind of sword-dance exists all around Europe. He will travel to England, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia and other countries during. Now, almost a hundred years, the Czech ethnochoreologist Frantisek Pospisil made similar recordings to Carter-Gordon during the 2011 and 2012.

In addition to learning to see and do, and who knows he going to learn along the way, is enthusiastic about sharing with local dancers. Tomorrow, on October 1, learn to Dance England Rapper sword dance course in his workshop.
